Processing Transit Surveys into a Standardized Format - A Survey Processing Pipeline Solution Proof of Concept in R

- Presented a standardized process for analyzing Transit Onboard Origin-Destination (TOBOD) survey data at the 2024 Research-to-Practice Transit Symposium (organized by Caltrans and University of Florida)

- Demonstrated the fundamental development principles of this solution, which could be applied to other data analyses

- Explained the benefits of the solution, including the ability to perform quality checks, producing standardized outputs, time and cost effective, simple instructions, and flexibility to modify codes

Hudson Yards Development Transportation Analyses and Designs

- Identified existing issues of 11th Avenue in the Hudson Yards area and redesigned the road to improve the travel experiences of drivers, pedestrians, and bikers

- Forecasted travel demand at the 34th Street-Hudson Yards subway station in 2030 and proposed improvements to facilitate circulations in the station

- Estimated parking demand of the Hudson Yards Western Rail Yard development and designed parking facilities to accommodate the needs of construction workers, office employees, residents, and retail shoppers

NYC Ferry Weekday Service Optimization in the Midst of COVID-19

- Optimized NYC Ferry routes on weekdays to reduce operating costs during COVID-19

- Developed a multi-commodity model to help redesign routes

- Proposed several alternative systems that could save as much as $13.8K per weekday

Impact of the Second Ave Subway on Travel Behavior on the Upper East Side

- Examined the impact of the Second Ave Subway on the ridership of Lexington Ave Subway, yellow taxi, and CitiBike on the Upper East Side

- Developed regression models to estimate ridership of the three transportation modes using demographic, land use, temperature, and Second Ave Subway ridership data

- Tested the models based on random number simulations and analyzed model results

Improving Subway Ridership by Enhancing Sanitary and Security Conditions

- Conducted a survey to understand travel behavior in the New York metropolitan region in response to the security and cleanliness of various modes of transportation

- Identified and defined the benchmark system for the sanitary and safety conditions of the NYC subway system

- Developed a mixed logit model to estimate travel behavior based on multiple variables

- Created and tested a proposed system that would improve subway ridership by enhancing safety and cleanliness of the subway
